Artists Information:

Chiu Hsi-Hsun pushed his work under the pseudonym “Shanba” (meaning “goofy” in this context). His debut work Little Anti-Communist Hero caught readers’ attention with the goofy looks of the characters and funny story plots. In the 1960s, Chiu rose to fame with his peculiar “goofy” comic style, and his work Miss Goofy was picked up by a film production company that adapted the work in to a Taiwanese film. After comics became censored after 1968, Chiu was infuriated and gave up comics. He later created tar painting in an unexpected circumstance, and has made an international fame with his tar painting that is invited to exhibit around the world.
